On Sunday I shared with you why I started this blog and what I would consider the first 5 steps to achieving your goals. I hope you guys have been thinking about your goals and what you can do to take those first steps into making them a reality.
Each month I am going to share with you my goals for that month and how I measured up from the month before. This is real so sometimes I will achieve my goals and sometimes I won’t. That is part of the process. I hope these posts each month will encourage you to step out of your comfort zone and dream big. I also hope that you will share your journey along the way and ask questions if you have them.
So let’s get started. First you need to know the background.
I have been a stay at home mom for almost 7 ½ years and loved ALMOST every part of it. Nothing is perfect, right? Next year my youngest child will start preschool. She won’t attend school all day but I will have 3 hours with an empty house. Eeek!! Obviously, I knew this day was coming so for years I have contemplated what the next phase of my life will look like. At first, I planned on going to a traditional job setting in accounting (this is my educational background).
The more I thought about it, the more questions I had about the change to my family life. Who is going to take my kids to school and pick them up? Who will be here right after school for homework, snacks and playtime? What about sick days, holiday breaks and summer break?
My new schedule would not allow me to be here during those times? I know countless moms who do this very thing, my mom being one of them as well as my sister. These moms are super heroes in my book. They do it beautifully and I praise them for it. I just began to feel like this is not what I wanted, so how could I make it look different? I am a firm believer in taking control of your situation. We can’t always make it happen overnight and there will be twists and turns out of our control but ultimately, we are in charge.
Enter, my first big goal: To earn an income while being at home with my kids.
Now we need to make sure we understand each other. Our goals are all different. One goal is not “better” than another. I do not want this to become about staying home vs. working outside the home. Both are equally important and good decisions. This is about setting a goal that works best for YOU. YOUR DREAM. YOUR PASSION. YOUR IDEA. We are not in competition. We are here to support each other and be a part of a community that is living intentionally to create the life they are after. You may want to excel in the corporate world. Perhaps your dream is to start your own business. Maybe you want to lose weight. Have you been dreaming about becoming debt free so that you can be a full time stay at home mom? Whatever it is, fully commit to it.
In order to reach my overall goal I have started two projects.
- Medical Coder – I am currently in school to receive this certification. I should finish this program around the beginning of the year.
- Messes & Memories Blog
My goal for this month is to complete the unit I am currently studying, ICD-10 coding.

As a result of reaching my mini goals during this month I hope to see an increase in page views as well as interaction on my blog. After a few months, I should be able to accurately forecast and determine goals for page views as well so be on the lookout for that.
